Wyandotte Art Fair

Had a great time. Forgot to take a pic of our booth. Will do that this weekend at Redford I-Art Festival.

Sales were slightly dismal, but seeing friends and having people appreciative of my work made it somewhat bearable.

Working tomorrow on earrings and bracelets. Might be able to share some pics :)

Wanna check out more?

go to my Facebook page

I have been tending to update there and share pics more often. I admit I am addicted tho the almost instant feedback.

Also adding a pic of square wire jump rings I just coiled and cut. Thinking they're gonna turn into a 3 in 1 half Persian bracelet.

New wire

Ordered a spool of wire to test it out. I really like it but it's much less malleable than the artistic wire i've been working with. Thinking the larger  gauges would make great jump rings in a pinch. Of course I still want to try parawire but I need a $50 minimum order for that so it will wait until after pride fest.

Right now working on another herringbone bracelet in the black wire with red glass beads.

Sold as soon as I made it

Bracelet crocheted with 26 gauge non tarnish silver colored wire and seed beads.

My step mom fell in love with it so it's hers now.

Viking Knit continues

My first attempt:

It started with 6 loops (stitches) and ended with 4 loops - and I think i drew it through the draw plate too small cuz it looks more like squished wire then the pretty pattern of weave it should.

My 2nd attempt:

turned out much better. I didn't draw it as small so you can see the pattern. I didn't make the silver coloured wire part long enough tho, so i left the starter brass wire on so I could make it into a bracelet. I finished it with quick wire wraps around the ends and jump rings through the end loops so it doesn't unravel.

My 3rd attempt on the dowel:

I was working with 24 gauge (the other 2 were 26 gauge) which i actually liked better. It turned out really pretty, but I didn't weave enough length so I drew it through the drawplate one too many times to make it long enough to do something with it. It ended up squishing the wire into a jumbled mess. I learned my lesson (again).

Currently working on a mixed colour bracelet in burgundy and silver. Hopefully I'll make it long enough.

Viking Knit!!!

Over the weekend I treated myself to an Etsy purchase so I could learn the Viking Knit technique.

It arrived today!!!!

Really simply, it's 2 wooden dowels and a wooden drawplate. And instructions with pictures.

I already had some wire to play with. So far I made 1 bracelet, but i really goofed it up and it's not that pretty, even after being drawn through the draw plate. I am working on bracelet #2 and taking my time. Hopefully it will turn out much better.

Fundraiser raffle Winner!!!

I ran a fundraiser from Dec. 3rd, 2011 to Jan 14th, 2012. It was to help out a friend who lost her job (through no fault of her own) and was in danger of losing her home, putting her and her kids out on the street. We raised almost $300!!! I thank each and every person who contributed!!

This is the drawing for the winners. Grand prize was a handmade crocheted American flag afghan (handmade by yours truly). My friend's sister had also donated some handpainted original oil paintings, so we gave away 2 of those as well.

The winner finally picked his prize up on Monday.

And now I am gearing up for a giveaway for all my facebook fans. So if you wanna get in on the action, you should totally like my page over there. (hint: click the picture)

Getting back on the motivation train!!!

I have spent a portion of the day getting things organized online so that I can better promote myself and my business in 2012.

I have linked my etsy shop to my facebook page. So now there is a direct link to "like" me on etsy. I have also made and linked a business twitter account (@magikjcreations) so I can tweet about my stuff and it won't get lost (hopefully) and I can always retweet myself from my regular twitter.

Tomorrow I am updating my etsy shop  and my artfire shop as well as working on a necklace and bracelet combo for a giveaway organized by the Michigan Artists Guild I am in on Artfire. (Their blog is here)

And this week I am working on a giveaway for the fans on my page and readers of this blog, as well as starting to apply for art fairs and craft shows taking place this summer.

I am super excited. Hopefully this will be a good year for magikjaz creations!!!!
